Job description

The role sits within the firm's Technical Costs Department and will focus on managing cost-related matters across a range of cases. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing fixed costs files, preparing cost schedules, making and evaluating offers, and negotiating settlements.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the efficient resolution of cost disputes while working collaboratively within a specialist team.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of RTA Claimant fixed costs cases, ensuring timely and effective handling
  • Review and negotiate costs claims with accuracy and efficiency
  • Liaise with fee earners and management to support case progression
  • Provide assistance to team members as needed, promoting collaboration
  • Prepare Precedent U costs schedules for Trial and Disposal hearings
  • Engage with third-party solicitors and insurers on a day-to-day basis
Requirements:
  • Strong working knowledge of legal costs and the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), including Pre-Action Protocols
  • Ability to assess cost arguments and formulate robust counter-responses
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to team working
  • High level of numeracy and strong mathematical skills
  • Exceptional time management and organisational abilities
  • Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Excel; experience with case management systems is advantageous but not essential
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining focus on objectives
