Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking a Civils Quality Inspector for a major project at Rosyth Naval Dockyard. The role covers ownership of quality control across work packages and provides technical oversight through the project lifecycle.

You will work with contractors and suppliers to ensure works conform to drawings, specifications, Quality Plans and ITPs, with objective evidence to support NEC4 Supervisor decisions.

Qualifications

Civils Quality Inspector – Rosyth Naval Dockyard

Location: Rosyth, Fife

Rate: Up to £650 per day Inside IR35

Contract: Long-term contract / Full-time

Minimum Site Requirement: 3 days per fortnight, with flexibility required for critical activities and meetings

Security Clearance: SC Clearance required, or candidates must be eligible to obtain SC

Nationality: Sole UK National required

Carmichael UK are currently recruiting on behalf of a Tier 1 contractor for an experienced Civils Quality Inspector / Civils SME to support a major project at Rosyth Naval Dockyard.

This is a key role within the project team, working closely with contractors and the wider delivery team during the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase to help ensure that civils works are properly planned, controlled and ultimately delivered to the required quality, contractual and regulatory standards.

We are looking for someone with a strong civils/construction background, ideally with experience as a Resident Engineer, Site Engineer, Civils Inspector or Civils SME, who is confident working collaboratively with contractors while maintaining a robust approach to quality and compliance.

The Role

As Civils Quality Inspector, you will take ownership of quality control activities across assigned work packages, providing technical oversight and assurance throughout the project lifecycle.

You will work closely with contractors and suppliers to ensure that works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, Quality Plans and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), while providing objective evidence and reporting to support the NEC4 Supervisor.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Providing civils quality inspection, surveillance and verification across construction activities.
• Working with contractors during the ECI phase to identify and address quality requirements early.
• Reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, Quality Plans and ITPs.
• Attending inspections, testing, witness points and hold points.
• Monitoring contractor compliance with approved procedures, specifications and ITP requirements.
• Ensuring work is undertaken by appropriately Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP).
• Providing on-site and supplier surveillance as required.
• Identifying quality risks, defects and potential non-conformances and ensuring these are appropriately recorded and addressed.
• Raising and managing NCRs, deviations and concessions where required.
• Producing clear and accurate inspection and quality reports.
• Ensuring appropriate quality records and evidence are generated throughout the works.
• Supporting the NEC4 Supervisor with inspections, compliance monitoring and technical recommendations.
• Providing objective evidence to support decisions around acceptance, defects and compliance.
• Attending Kick-Off Meetings and Pre-Inspection Production Meetings where required.
• Supporting contractor and supply-chain capability reviews.
• Carrying out final inspections and supporting project close-out and certification activities.
• Reporting quality progress, issues and risks to the Quality Engineer and Quality Manager.
• Maintaining a professional, firm but fair approach when dealing with contractors and project stakeholders.

About You

We are particularly interested in candidates who have a strong practical civils/construction background and can demonstrate the technical credibility to work directly with contractors and influence successful delivery.

You should have:

• 5+ years' relevant experience, ideally with substantial practical civils/construction experience.
• A relevant technical qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of civils construction, inspection and quality control processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, Quality Plans and ITPs.
• Experience working within construction, manufacturing, installation or similarly regulated environments.
• Strong understanding of how physical construction activities are verified and evidenced through quality control.
• Experience working collaboratively with contractors and supply-chain partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Competence using electronic reporting systems and Microsoft Office.
• Experience of working within a highly regulated environment; nuclear experience would be advantageous.
• NEC4 experience, particularly in relation to the Supervisor role, would be desirable.
