About The Role:
This renowned construction business is currently looking to appoint a Civil Estimator to support their estimating department. The department is responsible for the growth, delivery, P&L, and workload across various construction projects in Scotland, serving both public and private sectors.
As a Civil Estimator, you will have a blend of technical and commercial skills, enjoy teamwork, and develop project scope, programmes, and costs that are sustainable and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and producing discipline-specific estimates, quantitative take-offs, and Bills of Quantity (BOQs).
- Assisting in developing and understanding project solutions, challenging where appropriate, to create accurate estimates.
- Engaging and coordinating with all estimating disciplines and technical specialists.
- Conducting detailed cost estimates for groundworks projects.
- Analyzing project plans and specifications for accurate pricing.
- Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather information.
- Preparing comprehensive bid proposals and ensuring timely submissions.
- Monitoring and updating project budgets to keep costs within parameters.
- Supporting negotiations with clients and suppliers.
Requirements:
- Issuing enquiries to stakeholders, evaluating quotations, and preparing bid comparisons.
- Carrying out estimate work using own resources.
- Preparing estimate summaries and submission documents.
- Participating in handover of estimating data to delivery teams.
- Engaging with key stakeholders and maintaining relationships.
- Communicating with commercial, procurement, engineering, and construction teams.
- Supporting risk and opportunity management.
- Awareness of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Incorporating lessons learned into future projects.
- Maintaining quotation and cost databases.
About the candidate:
The estimating role is key in pre-construction and tendering, requiring effective communication, design interpretation, and cost development skills.
Skills and experience:
- Degree in engineering, surveying, or construction-related field.
- Experience with civil works estimating and computerized analytical systems.
- Ability to perform measurements and cost estimation at various project stages.
- Understanding of design and constructability influences.
- Experience with risk management techniques.
- Groundworks and civils environment expertise.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Team-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
- Commercial awareness.
