The Civils Design PM is responsible for the successful delivery of the civil design stage of the project. Responsible for managing and updating the civil design project programme with the assistance of our project programmer. The Civils Design Project Manager will have both technical competencies and practical experience delivering relevant types of work on sites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct the design team regarding the design programme and conflict resolution for individual design packages.
  • Identify design interfaces, perform risk assessments, and understand their commercial, practical, and operational impacts.
  • Coordinate and chair internal (Project Team) and client review meetings, collate views, and drive outcomes.
  • Review design buildability and costs.
  • Support construction teams in developing and implementing temporary works solutions.
  • Manage project delivery within a BIM environment.
  • Ensure project deliverables are met and agreed upon with the client, including asset information, models, MEICA specifications, and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Review the suitability of proposed solutions based on client requirements and site constraints.
  • Review design submissions and respond to client comments promptly.
  • Conduct site asset surveys during scoping and handover stages.
  • Lead reviews of civil design, specifications, equipment orders, and schedules.
  • Liaise with operations and maintenance staff during initial scope and upgrade works.
  • Engage stakeholders throughout design and commissioning stages.
  • Attend design, progress, tender handover, and pre-start meetings.
  • Manage risks and performance through effective commercial engagement.
Project Goals:
  • Deliver quality in procurement, design, and delivery to serve customers long-term.
  • Ensure the project is operational by 2029 to support a major bulk transfer to Southern Water.
  • Develop best practices in the largest new reservoir project in the South East for decades, capturing learning for better value.
  • Create a flexible project with multiple uses, enabling Portsmouth Water to be a strategic water supplier.
  • Prioritize health, safety, and well-being goals.
  • Foster positive connections with stakeholders including customers, community, regulators, staff, contractors, shareholders, and environmental groups.
  • Contribute positively to local and international habitats and support government water reduction objectives.
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Commercial awareness (NEC3,4 & JCT)
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and HAZOP requirements
  • Extensive understanding of construction techniques
  • Knowledge of compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation
  • Adherence to specifications, standards, and design requirements
  • Review and approve design consultant applications for payment.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to manage temporary and permanent design elements timely.
  • Ensure compliance with current industry standards and project strategic drivers.
