Overview

We’re seeking an ambitious and experienced Civils Contracts Manager to lead the growth and pipeline on a newly awarded framework with United Utilities.

You’ll oversee a range of civils projects on the new Detailed Design and Build framework award, working closely alongside our established delivery teams for the same client. This is a new role where you’ll be hands-on and build the team around you, so we’re looking for someone with the drive to develop themselves and their team.

What you'll be doing

You will be responsible for leading and overseeing the team, managing civils projects from initial concept, ECI through to delivery and completion. Your focus will be on ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

  • Utilise specialist civils experience and capability to oversee a wider team delivering complex civils schemes valued between £100k-£5m.
  • Oversee the full project management function of the team, supporting where required, based on team size, contract value, and framework scope.
  • Monitor project costs to ensure margin maintenance.
  • Ensure consistent project performance aligning with client and company expectations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment in collaboration with the SHWEQ department, ensuring compliance with health and safety checks.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and work with management to resolve issues.
  • Ensure RAMS and CPPs are developed and followed.
  • Oversee temporary works and appoint coordinators when necessary.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Manage labour allocations to ensure sufficient civils teams are available.
  • Participate actively in BRMR, collaborating with the Commercial team.
Who we’re looking for

Essential

  • Drive to build and improve yourself and your team.
  • Extensive experience managing and delivering civils projects from conception to completion.
  • Experience managing civils pre-construction processes, creating scopes of work, supporting tenders, and producing programs.
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance, CDM regulations, and safety standards.
  • Experience with temporary works management.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills in civils teams or business units.
  • Experience in writing RAMS and CPPs.
  • Ability to identify and manage risks, ensuring compliance with safe systems of work.

Ideal

  • Previous experience in the water industry.
  • Experience with MEICA projects/elements.
  • Business growth experience.
