Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a Construction Manager for a project in Birmingham. The role involves monitoring site activities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and overseeing contractor performance. Candidates should have client-side experience with Network Rail and relevant certifications. This position offers a contract for 6 months with a hybrid working arrangement.

Qualifications

  • Preferably with Asset Protection project experience.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations as applied to construction processes.

Overview

Position: Construction Manager (Civils) | Rate: £330 Inside IR35 | Location: Birmingham | Duration: 6 Months | Working Arrangements: 3 days Office, 2 days Home

Responsibilities
  • Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with relevant rules, regulations, Railway Group and Network Rail standards, procedures, and legislation.
  • Review contractor’s method statements and site-specific risk assessments in conjunction with the Asset Protection Engineer.
  • Confirm access, possession, storage, and worksites arrangements with Network Rail personnel to facilitate efficient completion of work.
  • Monitor quality of the contractor’s work through regular inspections and instruct contractors within delegated powers; track non-conformance actions to closure in an auditable manner.
  • Direct changes as appropriate and inspect completed works to assess readiness for inspection and manage remedial works.
  • Maintain close liaison with the contractor to ensure first-off checks of elements are inspected early and agree detailed workmanship standards for the entire works.
  • Monitor contractor management of site works through regular site meetings, determining locations, nature, and staffing for each element until the next meeting.
  • Monitor progress through regular site visits, comparing work with contract documentation, site meeting information, and overall contract programme.
  • Maintain a regular site presence and monitor and challenge standards and methods of work; keep a site diary as appropriate.
  • Encourage awareness of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environment and good workmanship by regular communication with all contractors’ site staff.
  • Monitor and assess the competence of contractors’ staff before and during all phases of work.
  • Check contractor compliance with Network Rail policy in accident/incident reporting and investigation, and assist with investigations.
Skills & Experience
  • Must have worked client-side for Network Rail as a Construction Manager; preferably with Asset Protection project experience.
  • A minimum of an HNC in Engineering; a Degree would be preferable (or equivalent).
  • PTS & CSCS Card and SMSTS.
  • Be knowledgeable of the CDM Regulations as applied to construction processes.
