Overview

Office based Civilian Investigator for the Major Crime Unit (MCU). Location: Sleaford, Lincolnshire. Contract length: 7 months. Working hours: 37 per week (Mon-Fri 8:00am - 4:00pm). Salary: £17.24 per hour PAYE. Job reference: JM BL 369826/2.

Our Client is seeking an Investigator to join their Major Crime Unit, a specialist team responsible for the investigation of serious and complex crime. This role is office based with no remote working. Responsibilities include interviewing suspects, gathering evidence from victims, witnesses, digital media and other sources, and preparing comprehensive case files for court. All work must comply with relevant legislation, including the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA) and the Victims’ Code of Practice. The role requires a strong commitment to fairness, integrity, and professionalism, treating all individuals with dignity and respect.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to reports of serious and major crime, including coronial investigations, and support other departments where required.
  • Develop and record proportionate investigation plans and strategies, prioritising lines of enquiry and securing evidence.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate interviews with victims, witnesses, and suspects, ensuring safeguarding compliance.
  • Gather, assess, and utilise intelligence to enhance investigations and support risk assessments.
  • Prepare high-quality case files in line with CPIA, disclosure rules, and court requirements.
  • Attend court and provide evidence where relevant to the investigation.
  • Represent the organisation at multi-agency meetings and case conferences.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, external partners, and the wider community.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice.
  • Undertake additional tasks within the scope of the MCU and work flexibly, including within shift patterns where necessary.
  • Contribute to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults by adhering to organisational policies and procedures.
  • Uphold health and safety responsibilities, ensuring the wellbeing of yourself and others.
