The Metropolitan Police Service is recruiting Civilian Investigators to join its Public Protection command in Brixton. This role allows you to bring your frontline and investigative experience to complex and high-impact cases, without the need to return to a warranted role.

You’ll be working on major and non-recent investigations, including rape, serious sexual offences, child abuse, domestic abuse, and cold cases—making a real difference in the lives of victims and helping bring justice in some of the most serious and sensitive cases.

Why This Role is Ideal for Former Officers
  • Use your investigative expertise without operational shift patterns or full warrant responsibilities

  • Continue working in public protection, where your experience can have the greatest impact

  • Be part of a values-led, victim-centred team, under the framework of Op Soteria—a national programme transforming how we investigate RASSO (Rape and Serious Sexual Offences)

Your Role Will Include:
  • Taking statements and video interviews from victims and witnesses

  • Reviewing CCTV and conducting house-to-house or field enquiries

  • Identifying safeguarding needs and referring to appropriate services

  • Working with external agencies including Social Care, Education, and Health

  • Reviewing and preparing documentary evidence and third-party material

  • Supporting live and cold case investigations, including cases involving new forensic evidence

  • Supporting operations like Op Granbury (non-recent abuse in care homes)

Essential Experience:
  • Former warranted police officer or detective

  • Background in public protection, safeguarding, RASSO, child abuse or major crime

  • Strong statement-taking and victim interviewing skills

  • Knowledge of investigative processes, criminal law, and police procedures

  • Ability to assess, evaluate and present evidence effectively

  • Clear, confident communicator able to work independently or in a team

PIP2 accreditation is desirable but not essential.

Additional Info:
  • You will be required to complete OST/ELS training (no JRFT required)

  • Hybrid working model—1 day remote per week from January 2025

  • Nominal posting is New Scotland Yard, with primary location in Brixton
