Job summary

Aldwych Consulting is seeking a Civil / Water Design Engineer for a hybrid role based in Manchester/Warrington, supporting a major UK water company on surface water, drainage and SuDS projects. The role involves reviewing external designs, shaping feasibility through detailed design, and ongoing client engagement.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, develop technical scopes for design partners, and contribute to governance, risk management and environmental improvements.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
• Experience in water, drainage, SuDS or flood risk.
• Understanding of surface water management and the wider water industry.
• Experience providing technical support, reviewing designs or delivering engineering projects.
• Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with clients and consultants.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Supporting SuDS, rainwater management and nature-based solutions.
• Investigating surface water challenges and recommending engineering solutions.
• Reviewing and challenging external consultants' designs.
• Supporting projects from feasibility through to detailed design.
• Developing technical scopes and requirements for design partners.
• Presenting recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
• Supporting project governance, reporting and risk management.
• Considering wider benefits, including flood reduction, biodiversity and water quality.
