A global engineering firm is seeking a Structural Engineer in Stockton-on-Tees. The role involves designing and analyzing structures for Iron and Steel Plants, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with teams to execute projects effectively. THE ROLE
Responsible for designing and analysing the construction of safe, sustainable, and cost-effective structures for Iron and Steel Plants. You will collaborate with other discipline engineers, sub-contractors, clients and suppliers to ensure structural integrity and compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Structural Engineer shall:
Produce, monitor and/or check that technically compliant and cost-effective design documentation; drawings, specifications, schedules, calculations, manuals etc. meet project requirements and company operating procedures / statutory obligations / National Standards.
Work with the Project team as the technical focus for Structural aspects of all projects to ensure a successful and commercially viable contract execution. This would include monitoring progress and change management.
Develop and maintain a good working relationship with other departments, design partners and other company offices, ensuring that design work meets with their needs and seek ideas on particular solutions.
Comply with the company operating procedures and statutory obligations. Participate in project Design & Safety Reviews, Risk Assessments etc.
The Structural Engineer should be able to complete Structural calculations. In addition, the Structural engineer should have an understanding of civil design and the ability to review engineering.
When required ensure that structures have been manufactured, tested and installed in accordance with the design / operational requirements. Advise customers of construction methodologies and good installation practice following local and international standards.
Develop , maintain and cultivate relationships with Clients, Suppliers, Sub Contractors to ensure successful execution of the project, future business.
Essential:
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The Structural engineer should have a good understanding of the requirements of heavy industry turn key projects.
Structural basic and detailed design skills, able to work alone or in groups to produce innovative, robust designs, built with both manufacture and operation in mind and suited to the harsh environment they will operate in.
Design calculation ability, usually with ‘MathCAD’ or Microsoft Excel required.
Basic CAD skills (Preferably Autodesk), training available depending on experience.
Working knowledge of environmental, health & safety and technical regulations.
Desirable
Advanced 3D CAD skills (Preferably Autodesk Inventor).
Problem solving and analytical thinking advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should possess a formal qualification in Structural Engineering and have evidence of at least 2 years experience in an industrial structural engineering role.
Desirable
Experience in heavy industry, preferably in Civil or Structural Design Engineering role.
Experience of project engineering and the project lifecycle from contract award through to installation/commissioning from a specific disciplined engineering view.
Experience of iron & steel industry advantageous.
Membership of the relevant professional institution would be preferred.
