Civil Senior Design Engineer - Environment

Location: Solihull / Grangemouth (Scotland) / Nottingham (Annesley) / Warrington / Bristol

What you will be doing:

As Senior Design Engineer, you will be an important member of the Engineering Design Team, working with Principal Engineers, Design Team, Design Managers, and Design Leads to deliver high-quality design in compliance with GT processes, BMS, and H&S Regulations. This technical role involves direct project engagement, requiring competency in water and wastewater industry design delivery. The Senior Design Engineer may also have line management responsibilities for discipline-specific and cross-discipline design engineers.

You will provide direction, contribute to engineering governance, ensure design integration across disciplines, support procurement activities, and assist site activities. Additionally, you will support the Discipline Manager and Principal Engineers in mentoring and developing early-career engineers.

About You:
  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience of + years in Municipal Water and Wastewater industries, working with clients such as Severn Trent, Scottish Water, Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Thames Water, Southern Water.
  • Chartered Member of a recognized professional Engineering body preferred.
  • Experience in contracting/consulting environment with commercial awareness.
  • Knowledge of civil design for water and wastewater systems, inlet works, effluents, tanks, chambers within WTW and WWTW.
  • Understanding of current H&S legislation and British Standards, with experience applying them in designs.
  • Ability to produce and review calculations and reports supporting designs.
Ideally you will have:
  • Understanding of hydraulics and hydraulic calculations.
  • Knowledge of structural design of water retaining structures (not essential).
  • Experience liaising with clients on technical matters, attending design, progress, and site meetings.
  • Awareness of NEC contracts.
  • Proficiency with the company's Integrated Management System, including H&S and Environmental regulations.
  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and report writing ability.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills, with ability to mentor junior engineers.
