Job summary

Ground Control is seeking a Civil Engineer Manager in Manchester to own the design function across landscape construction and civil projects. You will coordinate designers and consultants, ensure safe, compliant and buildable designs, and provide technical leadership across multiple live projects.

The role offers autonomy within an experienced operational network, with opportunities to shape standards and drive best-practice design processes across the division.

Qualifications

• Must hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Chartered status or working towards it with significant relevant experience.
• Proven design experience within civil/landscape/public realm sectors.
• Strong ability to lead and coordinate design teams.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of design coordination and technical assurance across landscape construction, public realm, and civil projects.
• Lead and coordinate the design process across live projects to ensure on-time delivery for construction.
• Coordinate internal designers, external consultants, subcontractors, and client teams to maintain progress.
• Review designs for buildability and compliance, addressing issues early to protect programme and budget.
• Act as technical authority for design decisions and resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Produce and review engineering designs, calculations and details including drainage, SuDS, foundations, and external works.
• Manage Temporary Works design per BS 5975 with proper checks and controls.
• Support estimating and bid teams with technical expertise and buildability insights.
• Oversee external design consultants and monitor performance, deliverables and costs.
• Drive standards, templates, and best-practice design processes across the business.
• Ensure CDM Regulations 2015 compliance and embed safety and maintenance considerations.
