@one Alliance is a partnership of eight leading companies—Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska, and SWECO—delivering over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. As we enter AMP8, our most ambitious Asset Management Period, we are preparing to undertake our largest project yet. This is a unique opportunity to drive industry change, set global standards, and foster career growth.

We’re seeking a Civil Engineer (water) to create and develop value-driven civil designs that achieve our capital investment programme outcomes and deliver value.

If you’re passionate about innovation, sustainability, and engineering excellence, this is your chance to be part of something extraordinary.

What you'll be doing

Key responsibilities:

  1. Develop civil designs for water infrastructure projects.
  2. Apply British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry guidelines in the design of concrete, steel, and masonry structures.
  3. Design, schedule, and specify pipes, including ductile iron, steel, and plastic.
  4. Conduct risk assessments and implement risk management in designs.
  5. Support the creation of Engineering Project Plans.
  6. Collaborate with clients, operational teams, and third parties to maintain strong working relationships.
  7. Conduct and document site surveys, assessing opportunities, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  8. Prepare topographic survey briefs and evaluate outputs from techniques such as laser scanning and drone surveys.
  9. Ensure designs meet technical standards, quality plans, and procurement requirements.
  10. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to drive efficient project delivery.
  11. Review and validate design outputs before release for construction.
  12. Research and implement innovative solutions to improve efficiency and sustainability.

Who we're looking for

What we are looking for:

  1. BEng or MEng/MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  2. Working towards Chartered Engineer status (MICE or MIStructE).
  3. Strong knowledge of structural calculations for concrete structures, including slabs, beams, and liquid-retaining structures (Eurocodes and industry standards).
  4. Ability to interpret drawings and models, and create clear design sketches for 3D modeling.
  5. Hands-on experience in civil engineering design within the water industry.
  6. Proficiency in engineering software such as TEDDS by Tekla, Staad Pro, and Autodesk Robot.
  7. Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
  8. Experienced and technically competent in most, if not all of the below:
  • Reinforced concrete design (BS EN 1992), including liquid-retaining structures.
  • Concrete specification (BS 8500-1) with knowledge of low-carbon concretes.
  • Service reservoir design and detailing.
  • Steel frame structures (portal frame) and fundamental design principles.
  • Masonry design and detailing.
  • Ground engineering, site investigations, and earthworks specifications.
  • Buried pipework design, including material selection and thrust restraint considerations.
  • Design of drainage systems, including surface water collection and disposal.
  • Site road design for concrete and tarmac surfaces.
  • Surveying experience, including structural and general building assessments.
