American Society of Civil Engineers is seeking a Civil Engineer/Structural Engineer to join a growing London-based consultancy. You'll handle structural design for residential refurbishment and new-build projects, coordinating with architects and clients and delivering calculations and drawings.

The role supports engineers from early career to Chartered status, with site visits and a mix of office and site work, plus progression opportunities and a flexible work arrangement.

Job description

Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer We are looking for a Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer to join a growing structural engineering consultancy in London. The company works predominantly within the residential sector, delivering structural refurbishment, alteration and bespoke new-build projects. They can consider engineers with a couple of years' experience through to recently Chartered candidates. As a Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer, you will work alongside Senior Engineers, Design Engineers and Technicians, taking responsibility for the structural design of your projects.

The Role

• Structural design and calculations


• Developing structural schemes and designing from first principles


• Residential refurbishment, alteration and new-build projects


• Coordinating designs with architects and clients


• Identifying design risks and alternative solutions


• Preparing technical information for drawings


• Producing calculation packages and structural specifications


• Attending sites and carrying out inspections


• Managing your own projects, workload and deadlines


• Discussing designs and technical changes with the wider team

There will be plenty of contact with architects and clients, so you will need to be confident discussing your designs and explaining the reasoning behind your solutions. More experienced Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer candidates will have the opportunity to take greater responsibility for projects, develop client relationships and become involved in winning new work.

The Person

• A Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related degree


• Previous structural design experience


• Knowledge of UK design standards and Eurocodes


• Experience producing structural calculations


• The ability to design from first principles


• Good technical problem-solving skills


• Experience coordinating with architects and other professionals


• Strong communication and organisational skills


• The ability to manage your own workload


• Experience across residential structures, refurbishment projects and existing buildings would be particularly useful.

You don't need to be Chartered, and the position can equally suit a Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer working towards professional accreditation.

Software & Development

The company uses AutoCAD, Tekla and Autodesk Robot. Experience with these would be useful but isn't essential, providing you have experience with structural design software and can learn new systems. The Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer will also benefit from a clear progression structure, regular development reviews and opportunities to take responsibility for larger and more complex projects as their experience develops.

Location

London

The role is primarily office-based with site visits and some flexibility to work from home. Candidates should ideally live within approximately one hour's commute of London. You must already have the right to work in the UK as sponsorship isn't available.
