Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer / Senior Civil Engineer to join our Gateshead office dependent on experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to further their career, within a busy multi-disciplinary consultancy offering Civil, Structural, Architectural and Geo-Environmental Engineering services.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in running projects with a good level of knowledge in residential housing developments of varying sizes.

The role requires an extensive knowledge of civil engineering design, earthworks, roadworks, drainage and general external works design, programme management, together with the experience of dealing with all of the statutory authorities to gain approval for the designs produced.

The successful candidate will be required to manage civil engineering projects from planning/feasibility through to the detailed design, tender and construction phases to final handover.

Typical current projects include civil engineering design for housing estate schemes whilst also covering other scheme types such as industrial and commercial. Projects are largely in the North East of England although UK wide projects are also ongoing.

Requirements & Attributes:

  • 6 – 10 years working experience
  • HNC as a minimum
  • Experience working with residential developers
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Have a keen eye for drawing presentation
  • A working understanding of industry standard civil engineering software, such as MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, Causeway PDS, Causeway Live Design, AutoCAD, Civils 3D
  • Self-motivated with the ability to use own initiative where required, whilst also not shying away from asking others opinions when solving technical problems and matters
  • Knowledge of UK planning procedures and relevant design codes, such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Manual for Streets, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Local Authority Design Guidance, and preparation of technical drawings for submission to the authorities
  • Able to provide support or mentoring to others within the team
  • An interest to working towards Chartership, if not already Chartered
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Writing of Flood Risk Assessment & Drainage Strategy Reports
  • Design of roads and sewers
  • Setting/design of all site levels including FFLs, identifying retaining wall requirements, earthworks batters etc
  • Design of Plot Drainage
  • Production of high quality well presented Technical Drawings
  • Liaison with highways / water authorities and LLFAs to ensure compliant designs for inclusion into Sectional Agreements such as S38 and S104 and discharge of planning conditions.
  • Engaging with clients, sub-consultants, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Proactively managing a portfolio of projects and working in collaboration with other design disciplines both inhouse and externally.
