We are looking for Civil Engineers to work on a range of railway drainage projects, including tracked earthworks, drainage systems, embankment stabilisation, culverts, soakaways, and associated civil works. You will be involved in the optioneering, design, planning, and execution of these projects, collaborating closely with contractors, railway operators, and multidisciplinary teams.

This role is suited for both:

  2. Chartered Engineers (who can lead projects and mentor junior staff).

Key Responsibilities

  • Drainage Design & Delivery – Undertake the design of railway drainage systems and associated minor civils works.
  • Project Management – Support/manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
  • Hybrid Working – Initially based in Slough full-time, transitioning to working part-time in Basingstoke (client office), Slough and remote working after an initial period.
  • Technical Collaboration – Work with in-house engineers, external consultants, and clients to deliver effective solutions.
  • Site Visits & Inspections – Conduct regular site visits to oversee works and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
  • Quality Assurance – Implement quality control procedures and ensure all work meets industry regulations.
  • Mentorship & Growth – Chartered engineers will mentor junior engineers and have opportunities to develop their own team.

Qualifications & Skills Required

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent industry experience) in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in drainage design (railway drainage preferred but transferable skills from highways/water accepted).
  • Willingness to obtain PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification if not already held.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to conduct regular site visits.
  • Driving licence and car.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience in AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Experience in Micro Drainage.
  • Experience working on Network Rail or London Underground projects.
  • Chartered status (CEng) or actively working towards it.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Hybrid working flexibility after the initial onboarding period.
  • Strong mentorship programme and support for professional development.
  • Clear career progression opportunities, including the potential to grow your own team.
  • Work on diverse, high-impact rail infrastructure projects.
