Job description

Location: Council Headquarters High Street Elgin Moray, IV30 1BX

Salary: £33,439 - £47,370 per year

Contract Type: Permanent

Position Type: Full Time

Hours: 36.25 hours per week

Job Description

The Consultancy Section provides a wide variety of services to the Council. These include flood risk management, coastal protection, the design and maintenance of bridges and structures, road design, and work for other sections within the Council. In addition there are statutory duties to be carried out such as watercourse and bridge inspections. The job involves providing technical expertise in delivering capital and revenue schemes for the Council primarily (but not exclusively) relating to Flood Risk Management. As well as this your ability to communicate well and your flexibility of approach will be important aspects in fulfilling the requirement of this post. The ability to adapt to new procedures and new systems will be essential to the way we work and the development of the service for the future.

Requirements

• Civil engineering and water management related studies, design, supervision and project management.

• Ensuring compliance with policies, statutory procedures and other advice and guidance.

• Professional and personal development.

The Individual

Knowledge of construction methods and design procedures.

Demonstrable post graduate engineering experience

Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent construction related discipline or demonstrable equivalent.

Good language analytical and numeracy skills.

Adaptable and resourceful.

Familiar with general-purpose software such as word processing, databases and spreadsheets.

Track record of developing good relationships in teams.

Experience of civil engineering and / or water management design.

Knowledge of NEC forms of contract.

Working knowledge of AutoCAD.

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car.

Flexible.

Helpfulness to colleagues and customers.

Manual and physical dexterity for working out doors in challenging terrain and close to waterbodies.
