What You Will Be Doing
Our Civil Engineers play an important part within the Design team and alongside our client, Transport Scotland.
Responsibilities
- Produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with relevant standards and client requirements; work unsupervised and supervise junior staff.
- Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of deliverables that satisfy quality, cost and programme criteria.
- Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
- Manage a small, locally based single‑discipline technical team and take responsibility for delivery of workload.
- Contribute to the preparation of bids and the general work‑winning function.
- Work on site on a visiting, full‑time or temporary basis, including out‑of‑hours working.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or Master’s qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts.
- Ability to work commercially and customer‑focused, achieving programme targets and generating income.
- Confidence to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others while supervising less experienced staff.
- Good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, national and local standards, best practice guidance.
- Good understanding of CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design.
- Ability to support preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required.
- Deliver on time, within budget and to the required quality.
- Keep up to date with industry best practice and apply it where appropriate within the team.
