JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • We have a Controls Engineer position available in our Albuquerque, NM office.
  • This position is responsible for controls engineering project requirements involving PLC programming, HMI/SCADA programming, control panel design, instrumentation specification, check-out support, and commissioning assistance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Project execution: Task identification, prioritization, and scheduling with personal accountability to ensure commitments are met.
  • Early problem identification and conflict resolution.
  • Working under the direction of experienced engineers.
  • Continuous improvement of methodology, lessons learned, templates, and efficiency tools to streamline project execution.
  • Direct and frequent communication and interaction with clients.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, codes, etc., as they apply to the contract and project(s).
  • Technical writing including project definition, requirements, status reporting, process control sequences, standard practices, scope of supply, RFI requests, customer correspondence, and code commenting.
  • Provide engineering design, development, and implementation including software (DCS/PLC, HMI, etc.). Support hardware engineering (systems integration, instrumentation callout, panel layout, construction) and systems design (integration of components).
  • Support factory/site acceptance testing, user acceptance testing, and user training.
  • Programming control logic, graphics construction, device communication, database configuration, etc.
  • Read, interpret, and update documents, drawings, and specifications related to process control and automation projects, such as PFDs, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, instrumentation data sheets, I/O lists, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: BA/BS degree in engineering or related discipline (Electrical, Chemical, Controls, or Computer Engineering). Technical degree and equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • Experience: 3+ years of related experience in process control, manufacturing, or information services.
  • Preference for candidates with Rockwell and Cimplicity experience.
  • Design, development, and deployment experience with PLC, DCS, and/or SCADA/HMI systems.
  • Strong leadership and client relation skills.
  • Good engineering and documentation practices; experience with collaboration tools like SharePoint is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; SharePoint experience is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills suitable for professional client and project interactions.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel up to 25%.
Strongly Specific Needs:
  • Diverse process knowledge in Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Water & Wastewater, etc.
  • Schneider Unity programming experience.
  • Allen Bradley ControlLogix programming (PlantPAx experience is a plus).
  • SCADA/HMI experience with ICONICS or Wonderware is a plus.
  • Checkout, testing, startup, and commissioning experience.
Physical Demands:
  • Normal vision for AutoCAD and architectural design tasks; ability to hear, follow directions, full manual dexterity, and the ability to sit and move as needed to meet deadlines.

  • Standard office environment with frequent use of computers, facsimiles, copiers, and other office equipment.
