Job Description

This role is with a client who provides a design and detailing service for a wide range of clients and schemes both locally and nationally. Their diverse portfolio includes multi-storey residential blocks, new housing schemes, schools, and commercial developments ranging from small individual projects up to multi-million-pound schemes.

Responsibilities and duties

Working within a civils team of Senior Engineers, Engineers, and Technicians, the role is varied and includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Design development: Support the design of civil engineering schemes from initial concept to detailed design, including roads, drainage, earthworks, and other infrastructure elements. Ensure designs are technically sound, cost-effective, and meet client requirements.
  2. Technical analysis: Undertake detailed design, prepare calculations and reports, and conduct assessments in accordance with relevant codes and standards. Use appropriate software to create design models, drawings, and documentation.
  3. Project management support: Assist in managing the technical aspects of a project, liaising with clients, contractors, and stakeholders, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery of designs.
  4. Quality assurance: Produce clear, well-presented designs, drawings, reports, specifications, and other engineering documentation, ensuring they meet internal quality standards and industry regulations/standards.
  5. Client liaison: Assist with client meetings and presentations, providing technical insights to ensure client expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
  6. Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, technicians, and project leads to coordinate design activities, resolve technical issues, and ensure timely project delivery.
  7. Site visits: Conduct site visits as required to monitor progress and carry out surveys to gather site information for design.
  8. Health and safety: Ensure all designs comply with health and safety regulations and contribute to risk assessments.
  9. Continuous learning: Participate in professional development and training to enhance technical skills and industry knowledge.
