Clarkson Owens Recruitment is partnering with a client in Edinburgh to recruit a Civil Engineer specializing in highways and drainage. You will deliver highway and drainage designs, ensuring innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions while meeting client requirements.

The role offers hybrid working (3 days in the office, 2 days at home) and a pathway to chartership, with a focus on developing your career within a collaborative engineering environment.

Qualifications

• A degree or higher in Civil Engineering.
• Chartered status or active progression towards chartership.
• Minimum 3 years' experience on highways and/or drainage design.
• Experience in a civil engineering design environment, preferably in consultancy.
• Proficient using Civil 3D for highways/earthworks and InfoDrainage for drainage design.
• Experience contributing to tenders with risk identification and mitigation.
• Strong technical, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Produce highways and drainage designs across a variety of projects.
• Provide technical expertise and specialist advice to colleagues and clients.
• Undertake Design Risk Assessments and contribute to hazard workshops.
• Coordinate with other design disciplines for integrated solutions.
• Assist with civil engineering tendering, reviewing tenders and developing design strategies.
• Identify project risks and opportunities and develop mitigation measures.
• Assist with procurement and coordination of specialist subcontractors and suppliers.
• Prepare and coordinate tender deliverables.
• Liaise with clients and design teams throughout projects.
• Attend design team, client and site meetings as required.
• Maintain clear and proactive communication with stakeholders.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• A degree or higher-level qualification in Civil Engineering.


• Chartered status or be actively working towards chartership.


• A minimum of 3 years' experience working on projects involving highways and/or drainage design.


• Experience working within a civil engineering design environment, ideally within a consultancy.


• Experience using Civil 3D (or similar) for highways and earthworks design.


• Experience using InfoDrainage (or similar) for drainage design.


• Experience contributing to tenders, including risk identification and mitigation.


• Strong technical, written and verbal communication skills.


• Excellent attention to detail.


• The ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.


• Confidence in presenting technical ideas and solutions.


• The ability to represent the business professionally during site visits and surveys.

Experience working on infrastructure projects, particularly within the rail or power sectors, would be advantageous.

A current clean driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the UK is desirable. Occasional site visits may involve early starts, late finishes or other unsociable hours.
