Job description

The role:

  • Undertake appropriate analysis and prepare design calculations, drawings, and reports with little supervision from a Senior Engineer and in a form that can readily be checked by another member of staff.
  • Support Senior Engineers in project design from commencement to completion.
  • Influence development and infrastructure master-planning using knowledge of Highways Act 1980, Water Industry Act 2004, Land Drainage Act, New Roads and Street Works Act, and other Statutory Instruments as required.
  • Produce high-quality designs for feasibility, costing, and construction purposes, including highways & drainage, street works, public works, SUDS, building drainage, and utilities coordination/diversion as required by our clients.
  • Undertake the coordination of thorough site investigations, complete inspections, and identify and resolve any issues as appropriate.
  • Undertake accurate and timely assessments of variations and appraisal of fee cost and/or timescale impacts, and agreement with client/customer organisations.
  • Manage engineering teams to ensure utilisation and recovery targets are monitored and achieved.
  • Offer leadership, mentoring, encouragement, and motivation to junior engineers.
  • Enforce financial control of projects when acting as a Project Manager.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with team members, clients, and other construction professionals regarding projects.
  • Represent the company at design team meetings with clients and other construction professionals.
  • If not already Chartered, work towards your Chartership with the support of your mentor and colleagues in a regular and systematic manner.
  • Keep your professional development up-to-date with IPD/CPD expectations and/or Membership requirements of the ICE.

What you need to succeed:

  • Use AutoCAD 2D Drafting, PDS Site Developer / Civil 3D, Flow / Micro-drainage or similar hydraulic design software, TEDDS, and other industry-recognised software.
  • BEng/MEng or equivalent degree from a JBM-accredited course in Civil Engineering or associated subject.
  • If not already Chartered, near Chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineers.
