Overview

Turner Lovell are recruiting for a Civils & Geotechnical Design Manager to join a major UK energy infrastructure programme delivering new substations and transmission assets. Our client is an international engineering and construction organisation working on one of the UK's largest grid upgrade projects, connecting cleaner and greener energy to millions of homes.

  • Start date: ASAP
  • Contract: 3-6 months, with possible extension
  • Rate: 450 per day, outside IR35
  • Location: Cardiff, United Kingdom

Responsibilities
  • Lead the civils and geotechnical design scope from concept through to handover.
  • Manage design requirements, risk, change, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with clients, consultants, and site teams to deliver robust and buildable design solutions.
  • Support construction delivery through design reviews, responding to technical queries, and ensuring assurance and commissioning requirements are met.
  • Promote sustainability, digital tools, and modern construction methods to optimise project outcomes.
Requirements
  • Chartered (desired) in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience managing multidisciplinary design delivery in civils, geotechnical, energy, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of governance, compliance, and design risk management.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Passion for innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
