We are recruiting Civil Design Engineers with water and wastewater design experience to join our Water Consulting division in Scotland, with opportunities based in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Stepps.

This role primarily involves delivering water and wastewater infrastructure design projects for Scottish Water and their construction partners. Additionally, there are long-term frameworks across the UK, offering opportunities to support wider water industry programs.

RPS Water Consulting comprises Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts providing Asset Management and Operational Strategy development for water industry clients, supporting business planning and project delivery. The industry is evolving, offering challenges and opportunities that demand innovation, dedication, and teamwork.

About You

As a key member of our team, your role as a Civil Design Engineer is vital in delivering successful projects for our water industry clients. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on various capital projects, contributing to option analysis, design, and project documentation in wastewater infrastructure.

Your Responsibilities
  • Lead design engineer for small to medium projects, coordinating internal teams and liaising with clients and stakeholders.
  • Develop outline and detailed designs, including construction-ready documentation.
  • Prepare design calculations, reports, drawings, and other deliverables.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers on technical decisions during design stages.
  • Contribute to proposals, feasibility studies, and technical specifications.
  • Engage with clients to understand their needs.
  • Coordinate with contractors and supply chains.
  • Manage or oversee design staff, fostering technical excellence and communication.
  • Mentor junior team members and support their professional development.
  • Participate in UK-wide water company frameworks and technical networks.
  • Support regional team growth by leveraging your strengths and passions.
  • Coordinate with environmental, geotechnical, civil, and other specialists.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to technical development.
  • Ensure timely project delivery and maintain industry knowledge.
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
  • Experience as an engineer or senior engineer in civil engineering within the water sector.
  • Proven experience in water and wastewater infrastructure, including hydraulic design of pipelines, sewers, trunk mains, and pump stations; treatment works and storage design are advantageous.
  • Proactive problem-solving approach.
  • Understanding of CDM regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Chartered or actively working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Knowledge of relevant British Standards, UK Codes of Practice, and Water Specifications.
Qualifications
  • BSc, BEng, or MEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
