Job summary

Network Rail in Manchester is seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Manager (CEM) - Works Delivery (Civils) for a 6-month+ contract based at Heaton Mersey Depot. Hybrid working. Lead civils delivery and provide engineering assurance across the project lifecycle. Strong rail civils experience and CRE/engineering management background are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related (MEng preferred).
• Minimum 5 years in the rail industry.
• Approximately 8 years civils design and delivery experience.
• Around 3 years as CRE or similar engineering management role.
• Strong rail civils design, delivery and engineering assurance processes.
• Experience managing interfaces, risks and issues.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Lead CEM activities for civils works delivery.
• Provide technical leadership and assurance throughout lifecycle.
• Review and approve designs and methodologies.
• Coordinate with contractors, designers and stakeholders.
• Manage technical risks and delivery issues.
• Provide technical guidance to delivery teams.
• Ensure standards, documentation, and handover.

Overview

Role & Responsibilities

• Lead CEM activities associated with civils works delivery.
• Provide technical leadership and engineering assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review and approve designs, methodologies, and technical submissions.
• Coordinate with contractors, designers, and project stakeholders.
• Manage technical risks, engineering changes, and delivery issues.
• Provide technical guidance and support to project delivery teams.
• Ensure engineering standards, documentation, and handover requirements are achieved.
• Support effective decision-making on technical matters.

Essential Requirements

• A degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline (MEng preferred).
• Minimum 5 years' experience within the rail industry.
• Approximately 8 years' civils engineering design and delivery experience.
• Around 3 years' experience as a CRE or in a similar engineering management role.
• Strong understanding of rail civils design, delivery, and engineering assurance processes.
• Experience managing technical interfaces, risks, and engineering issues.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

• Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
• Previous CEM / Works Delivery experience.
• Experience delivering major rail infrastructure projects.
