NES Fircroft is seeking a Civil / Structural Design Engineer in Manchester for a 12-month contract, hybrid working.
The role covers production and review of technical solutions for Grid Access Substations and HVDC Converter Stations, with governance of proposals and delivery to time and budget. Strong multidisciplinary coordination, and familiarity with UK and EU design codes, CDM 2015, and design consultancy experience are expected.

We are recruiting for a third party worker to join our “Civil” Design team. The role is based in Manchester and involves the production and review of technical solutions for our Grid Access Substations and HVDC Converter Stations business.
You will work in a collaborative team environment where significant interaction and coordination with other design disciplines will be prevalent on a daily basis. The selected individual shall be responsible for providing solutions and technical input to a live project. The individual will have the competence to self deliver solutions and provide governance on the proposals provided by others. The role will require skills associated with the planning and delivering work packages on time and to budget.
This is a varied role which will require a diverse but well rounded skill set. We are looking for someone who is technically excellent, reliable and with an attention to detail whilst inducing value opportunities. Predominantly the role is hybrid based, but may require occasional (infrequent) visits to site to address issues at a construction level
Own a design and design coordination package from Commercial Transfer to Practical completion of numerous consecutive electrical infrastructure projects (Grid Access Substations and HVDC Converter Stations).
Undertake design governance checks on the efforts of other designers (both internal and external resource).
Ensure information produced by 3rdparty consultants complies with the contract requirements and are developed to provide an appropriate solution (procurement time, buildability, timely construction, considers CDM regulations).
Ensure design output corresponds with design inputs (collated and compiled by yourself)
Interact with other disciplines and formulate scoping documents – collaborative working.
Author and manage Scope of Works documents and the production of design tender packages.
Review the content of each design package with designer and check interfaces with other design disciplines.
Assist in the planning of the design tasks in line with procurement and construction strategies.
Monitoring of the performance of the design progress, quality against objectives and take all required actions.
Participate / lead design reviews
Liaise with and lead discussions between internal designers, Clients, Consultants, and the Project Team.
Scoping technical requirements and deliverables
Contributing to and continually reviewing a design schedule to ensure timely delivery of proposals.
Overview and manage the coordination of building services designs.
Identifying when designs proposals will be subject to Building Regulations and the correct implementation of the Regulations are captured within the technical solution.
Instigating, quantifying, and recording change management of design activities which will have an influence on budget and schedule.
Site visits to identify constraints on new developments and resolve issues which may be faced during construction.
