Job Purpose:
Directly responsible for identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to help drive down inefficiencies and reduce waste. This role is key to improving product quality and driving a culture of continuous improvement across the site.
The Role and Responsibilities:
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead, facilitate, and manage continuous improvement initiatives across all departments.
- Analyse operational data and KPIs to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement in production, packaging, and supply chain operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, engineering, quality assurance, and maintenance to drive improvement projects.
- Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions. Provide training and mentorship to staff on continuous improvement methodologies and tools such as Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and SMED.
- Support the deployment of digital and automation technologies that enhance production efficiency.
- Monitor and report the financial impact of improvement initiatives and project ROI.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement on the factory floor.
- Build dashboards for tracking process improvements.
- Ensure that all projects are seen through from concept to implementation with an emphasis on making them sustainable and long-lasting.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure that Health and Safety guidelines are followed and actively drive a culture of safety first within the factory.
- Health and Safety must be at the heart of any new project or initiative that is implemented within the business.
People Management
- Responsible for connecting with all stakeholders within the business to ensure they are engaged and focused on all improvements made to processes.
- Training and coaching in the new processes.
- Leading and facilitating cross-functional project teams.
Person Criteria – Key skills, Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a continuous improvement or lean manufacturing role, preferably in a meat processing or food manufacturing environment.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in using tools such as DMAIC, SPC, and FMEA.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and lead change.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with manufacturing systems.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations (e.g., HACCP, BRC, USDA, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Good standard of spoken and written English.
- Ability to engage, influence and motivate and embed a continuous improvement culture.
- Minimum of food safety level two.
- Proficient in project management.
