Job summary

The Newt in Somerset is seeking cheerful Christmas Helpers (Elves) to welcome families and bring the Meet St Nicholas experience to life. Shifts run on 8:30am–5pm during November and December 2026, with a late session on 19 November from 3:30pm to 8:30pm, and you’ll wear a festive costume throughout.

In this role you’ll greet guests, assist with grotto logistics, manage bookings and photography opportunities, and help ensure every child leaves with magical memories.

Qualifications

• DBS check required or willing to obtain DBS.
• Warm, approachable, and embody a Christmas Elf persona.
• Energetic with strong verbal communication.
• Experience in acting or performance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Give a warm, characterful welcome to visiting families.
• Keep the festive spirit alive while guests await their time with St Nicholas.
• Support St Nicholas with gift-giving and photo opportunities.
• Manage bookings and keep visits running smoothly and on time.
• Assist with grotto logistics including guest flow and ticketing.
• Ensure every child’s experience is magical from start to finish.

Predominantly 8:30am-5pm on the following dates:

November 2026: 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th

Plus: 19th November afternoon session: from 3:30pm up to 8:30pm

December 2026: 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd

Celebrating Christmas at The Newt in Somerset is a truly enchanting experience. At the heart of it all lies our much-loved Meet St Nicholas experience – a key pillar of our festive programme. The Gardener’s Cottage is transformed into a luxurious grotto, where St Nicholas takes up residence, and we need warm, vibrant Christmas Helpers (our very own elves!) to make the magic happen. Working alongside St Nicholas, you’ll welcome families, spread festive cheer, and create unforgettable memories this season.

• Wear and maintain a festive costume in character throughout

• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Background in acting, performance, or entertainment (desired)
• Comfortable wearing festive costume throughout the day
• Strong time management and team spirit
