Job Description:

Chinese speaking - Software Standardization & Industry Development Engineer (Contract, Onsite in Edinburgh)

Our client, a leading global technology company, is looking for a Software Engineer with expertise in programming languages, operating systems, and open-source ecosystems to join their Europe Software Standardization & Industry Development (EU-SID) team.

This is a rare opportunity to combine technical depth with industry influence, contributing to the future of software standards and platform innovation across Europe.

What You’ll Do

  • Represent our client in international standards organizations (e.g., ECMA, W3C, OCX) within the software, open source, and mobile OS domains.
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of advanced technologies like ArkTS, Cangjie, HarmonyOS Native, Atomic Services, and open-source development kits.
  • Track and interpret global software policies and regulations — with a focus on EU digital acts such as the DMA and DSA — and deliver insights to internal teams.
  • Work closely with engineering, product, and strategy teams across European branches and headquarters to align technical direction and share updates.
  • Promote and manage pilot projects and co-development efforts with European developers, ecosystem players, and academic institutions.
  • Support public workshops, summits, and events focused on operating systems, developer tools, and software standards.
  • Assist in internal project planning, budgeting, and coordination efforts within the EU-SID team.

Who You Are

  • Hold a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Have experience with or exposure to standards bodies like ECMA, W3C, OCX, or major open-source governance.
  • Proficient in mobile application development on platforms such as Android, iOS, or HarmonyOS.
  • Solid understanding of programming language infrastructure, OS components, or software development lifecycle.
  • Skilled in interpreting complex policies and translating technology trends into actionable strategy.
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural and collaborative environment.
  • Located in or willing to relocate to Edinburgh for 100% onsite work.
