Job summary

Greencore is recruiting for a Night Shift position in Consett. You will set up and monitor chillers, supervise packing operations, and ensure compliance with temperature, safety, and hygiene protocols. The role runs Monday to Friday, 22:00–06:00 with a pay rate of £15.27 per hour.

Experience in food manufacturing and good numeracy and literacy are valued for maintaining traceability records and working as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Set up and monitor chillers to correct temperature for packing.
• Oversee area operations and ensure meals match planned schedule.

• Maintain hygiene and safety standards; follow PPE and colour coding rules.
• Record paperwork accurately and complete required traceability data.
• Assist with cleaning and general tasks as directed by the area manager.

Here in Consett, we have a team of around 280 colleagues. We produce a range of chilled ready meals for some of the UK's leading retailers, including Co-op, Sainsbury's and Weight Watchers.

What you'll be doing

Setting up and monitoring the chillers, ensuring all stacks are processed to the correct temperature ready for packing, as well and overseeing the general operation of the area, suppling packing with the correct meals according to the days scheduled plan, completing paperwork as required.

• Working alongside retort operatives to ensure that the days scheduled products are available at the required time and temperature while adhering to operational procedures and production timelines
• Loading and unloading the chillers when required, temperature checking each stack throughout required chilled time, raising any issues with management and quality.
• Overseeing the general operation of the area, being vigilant on any foreign body and cross contamination risk by carrying out visible checks throughout the shift, making sure all samples and test kitchen samples are stored properly and safely in accordance with procedures.
• Moving empty stacks from the chillers when required, ensuring stacks are undamaged before returning to retorts, completing required paperwork timely and efficiently.
• Carrying out tasks as requested by the area manager, cleaning as you go, using the correct PPE when required, following colour coded procedures for veg/meat/allergen.
• Following all factory and health and safety procedures in place, reporting any discrepancies and/or issues to technical and/or management when/if they arise.
• Conform to all current food hygiene requirements and Health and Safety legislation, maintaining the highest quality standards, follow good housekeeping and ensure all areas are always kept clean and tidy.
• Following CCP procedures correctly as trained.
• Other tasks may be required.

What we're looking for

Full training will be provided if successful in this role but are looking for the following knowledge and experience:

• Experience working within a food manufacturer preferred
• Attention to detail
• Good time management
• Excellent Literacy and Numeracy skills are required due to completion of traceability records
• Problem solving skills
• Good communicator and ability to work in a team
• Allergen awareness
• L2 Food Safety is preferred but not essential
