If you have a strong background in supporting children and adolescents impacted by trauma, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful difference. You’ll deliver direct therapeutic support to children, collaborate with care teams, and help shape a trauma-responsive environment that fosters healing and growth.

What We Offer

  • Generous Annual Leave: 33 days per year, with additional leave at 2 and 5 years of service.
  • Comprehensive Training: A thorough induction and tailored training academy to support your development.
  • Referral Bonuses: Earn £1,000 for every successful referral of a friend.
  • Pension Scheme: Automatic enrolment into our company pension.
  • Recognition Awards: Celebrate successes with our monthly Wilderness Heroes Awards.
  • Health and Wellbeing Benefits: Access to Medicash, including a healthcare cashback plan, virtual GP services, and discounted gym memberships.
  • Life Assurance: Coverage worth twice your annual salary.
  • Discounts and Perks: Save with exclusive deals on high street brands, restaurants, and leisure outlets, plus discounts from local businesses based on employee feedback.

Your Role

As a children’s psychotherapist, you’ll:

  • Provide one-on-one and group therapy to children, tailoring interventions to meet their unique needs.
  • Work closely with carers, families, and our Health and Wellbeing Team to create and implement personalised support strategies.
  • Help teams understand children’s behaviours, offering insight and training to enhance their practice.
  • Develop therapeutic plans and reports that make a tangible difference in children’s lives.
  • Use our outdoor spaces and facilities to inspire and engage children in meaningful ways.
  • Operate flexibly, with time spent at our Penrith Head Office, in children’s homes, and occasionally working from home.
  • Travel across Cumbria regularly to connect with children and care teams.

What We’re Looking For

We need someone with:

  • Substantial experience working directly with children in a counselling or psychological capacity.
  • A UKCP/BACP registration and a Level 4 (or higher) counselling qualification.
  • Deep knowledge of trauma and attachment theories, with the ability to apply them to practice.
  • A strong understanding of legislation and safeguarding practices within residential childcare.
  • Exceptional communication and IT skills, alongside proficiency in record-keeping.
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to your own transport.

Join Our Team

At Wilderness Way, we’re committed to equality and the safety of children in our care. If you’re ready to make a lasting impact, we’d love to hear from you. This role is subject to necessary background checks, including an Enhanced DBS, Access NI, or Disclosure Scotland.
