A local authority is seeking agency Childrens Social Workers to support children and families through statutory social work. The position offers competitive pay, manageable caseloads, and flexible working arrangements in a supportive environment. Candidates will experience a thorough induction and additional training opportunities to facilitate their growth.
Please be aware this is a Long Term Temporary post to start ASAP.
The role:
We are keen to recruit agency social workers with experience of statutory social work with children and families. Contracts can be offered in the initial period for up to 6 months, to provide candidates with stability and security in the role.
We want to be responsive to our agency workers’ needs. Our model of working from referral to permanence or closure allows us to tailor caseloads to our agency workers’ interests. Typically, we offer caseloads involving Child Protection and Child in Need, but we can discuss allocating court cases or cared-for children if it aligns with our agency staff’s interests.
We are based in the town hall district of Stockport. All social work teams are co-located with health, police, Early Help, and MASSH colleagues. Currently, we have vacancies across our borough. Our average caseload is 20, with fluctuations across teams. We are committed to maintaining manageable caseloads and review this regularly.
We provide a comprehensive induction for agency workers, with gradually increasing caseloads and complexity. We also offer high-quality reflective supervision monthly, with team leaders trained in reflective and systemic supervision. Opportunities for group and reflective supervision are available, along with specialist advice from our Aspire service on domestic abuse and complex safeguarding issues.
Each team comprises 1 team leader, 2 senior practitioners, and 6 social workers. Teams focus on small geographical areas and maintain links with local schools, health professionals, and borough-wide services through our Team around the School model. Our team leaders and senior practitioners are well-established and have strong relationships within Stockport and with senior management.
Regarding working patterns, we recognize the importance of flexibility. Our social workers value team time and also appreciate the option to work from home. We utilize modern technology to support this and are open to requests for flexible or reduced hours to meet individual needs.
We welcome questions and conversations from prospective candidates and look forward to you joining our team!
