A bit about the role

As a Children's Services Worker, you'll support the development of children and young people by creating fun and stimulating environments to enhance skills and promote emotional resilience and positive behaviour in group activities and one-to-one sessions at home, school and in the community. You'll also be delivering a consistent approach to family members using holistic interventions and listening to the needs of the family.

About the service

Flintshire Families Disability Service successfully provides support for children, young people, and their families based on their needs and choices. We provide opportunities and build links to enable social interaction and develop life skills while supporting their physical and emotional needs.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

  • Delivering appropriate interventions to children, young people or families on a 1:1 basis or in group settings, with appropriate direction and participation, based on individual needs and choices.
  • Undertaking home, school, and community visits and meetings as advised.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships and channels of communications with colleagues and families to encourage, participate and promote involvement to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Being alert and ready to take action to protect and safeguard children and to inform appropriate line managers of concerns consistent with safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Attending and actively participate in relevant multi-agency meetings.
  • Retaining accurate and detailed records in a timely manner, using various IT systems to capture case details, outputs and outcomes as necessary.
  • Ensuring familiarity and compliance with relevant Action for Children policies and procedures.

Let's talk about you

  • Excellent communication skills, diary management and report writing.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of supporting young people with disabilities and additional needs (no personal care or medication assistance is required for this role).
  • An understanding of managing caseloads including assessments and reviews.
  • The ability to represent the service in community organisations, partner agencies and other external agencies.
  • Level 3 (or the willingness to work towards) in Health and Social Care, Childcare and Education or a relevant qualification in Youth Work, Education or Children's Service.
  • Empathy and dedication to work collaboratively with children, young people, and their families.
  • Access to a car with business insurance is desirable as the role requires the ability to travel across Flintshire according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
  • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable.

Good to know

As a non-profit organization, we are committed to the recent update from the Welsh Government in relation to 'eliminating private profit from the care of children looked after'.

By 2027, they aim to have the care of children who are looked after in Wales, to be provided by the public Sector and charitable or non-profit organizations.

Contact: Scott Jones at quoting reference 11096. We'll be happy to give you any support you require.

Diversity, equality and inclusion

At Action for Children, we're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. We actively encourage applications from Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic and disabled candidates as they are under-represented within Action for Children.

Don't meet every single requirement?

If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with the job description, we'd love you to apply anyway. You might just be the perfect person for this role, or another role within the Action for Children family.
