Job description

Would you like to come and work in a small and friendly paediatric unit looking after children from our local area? We have 16 beds and have dedicated day surgery lists. We are looking for experienced and newly qualified staff nurses to come and join our team. You would be supported by a team of band 6’s, a clinical educator, and ward sisters to aid your development. We also have a clinical educator in post to help with staff development and we openly encourage change and innovation.

We offer study to all staff including Thames Valley and Wessex High Dependency passport days, retrieval study days, oncology study days. Staff are encouraged to participate in band 5 study days held at the John Radcliffe as we are part of the CHOX

The children’s ward at the Horton General Hospital looks after a variety of specialities from medicine to surgery. We care for children for 0 days up to 18 years of age. Every day is different, and we strive to offer the best quality family centre care we can. The ward is part of the Children’s Hospital Oxford.

You would have an opportunity to become a link nurse if you have a speciality you are interested in and we also run a shared decision council that you would have an opportunity to participate in.

Please do not hesitate to contact the ward on 01295229001 for more information and to arrange an informal visit with Pippa Parnell or Anna Brain, Ward Sister

You will be expected to look after an allocated group of children and the families offering a high standard of care. This could include day surgery as well as medical and trauma inpatients alongside any medical day care. We also have day ward attenders which can range from consultant reviews to IV antibiotic administration.

We have access to SD's at the John Radcliffe and also as part of the Thames Valley and Wessex network. We encourage staff development within the team and we also strive to have team SD's to ensure all staff are kept updated alongside any mandatory training. If you are newly qualified you would be part of the foundation programme that is run.

You will be expected to do nights shifts as well as weekends and bank holiday as we operate a 24/7 ward.
