Job Description:

• Provide reliable and effective social work help and intervention to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in need, ensuring they maintain a reasonable standard of health and development, receive appropriate parenting, and have a sense of permanence. Take action to minimise the effects of disabilities for disabled children, enabling them to lead as normal a life as possible.
• Identify promptly children unable to live at home, and take action to secure permanence within a suitable timescale. Address the needs of looked-after children in accordance with their care or pathway plans to support their progress and potential as adults.
• Apply consistent, child-centered practice, involving children in assessments, planning, intervention, and reviews. Seek and consider their views and wishes, appropriate to their age and understanding, to inform the level of intervention and support provided.
• Provide professional leadership to ensure effective teamwork among professionals to meet the needs of children in need, including those with child protection plans, privately fostered children, and care leavers.
• Work collaboratively with parents and carers to strengthen protective factors, reduce risks, and establish trust, aiming for safe and reasonable parenting. When parental cooperation is lacking, pursue alternative arrangements to safeguard the child.
• Collaborate with foster carers, guardians, prospective adopters, and others involved in caregiving to meet children’s needs, support their development, and prepare them for transition to adult life.
