Job summary

Knowsley Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Children’s Social Care Team Manager to lead a team of social care professionals, ensuring high-quality, child-centred services. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will safeguard children and support families while ensuring statutory duties are met.

You will drive practice standards, monitor performance against KPIs and budgets, and promote positive outcomes for children and families with strong professional oversight.

Qualifications

• Significant experience within children’s social care, including safeguarding and statutory social work services.
• Experience of managing, supervising or leading social workers and supporting professional development.
• Strong knowledge of relevant children’s social care legislation, statutory duties and safeguarding procedures.
• Experience of case management, quality assurance, performance monitoring and service improvement.
• Experience of workload management, resource allocation and budget monitoring.
• Excellent communication, leadership and partnership-working skills.
• A strong commitment to promoting the welfare, safety and best interests of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and manage a team of social workers with supervision and support.
• Ensure children’s needs are assessed, planned for, safeguarded and reviewed under statutory requirements.
• Monitor performance against KPIs and service targets.
• Oversee casework, audits and sound professional decision-making.
• Allocate workloads to ensure timely service delivery and manage caseloads.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, guidance, policies and safeguarding procedures.
• Support recruitment, induction, training and performance reviews.
• Contribute to service planning, reports and improvement initiatives.
• Manage team expenditure and budgets within financial limits.
• Build relationships with internal and external partners for coordinated delivery.
• Maintain accurate case records, reports and documentation with data protection requirements.
• Promote equality, diversity and anti-discriminatory practice.
