Job description

Specific Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday – some possible out-of-hours cover.

Reporting to: Registered Manager

Area Camden is a registered children's home provider, part of the Polaris community. We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, dedicated, and professional Home Manager to support the Registered Manager and team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years’ deputy/management experience and experience working with young people aged 8 to 18.

Main Purpose of Role:

  • The Home Manager is part of the senior management team, operationally responsible for delivering high-quality care to children and young people in the home.
  • Lead strategic planning for the development of the home.
  • Ensure childcare practices focus on achieving the best outcomes for each child and young person.
  • Provide practical leadership, organizing and supporting staff to deliver excellent care.
  • Contribute to safeguarding children and uphold related responsibilities.
  • Induct, supervise, and mentor staff.
  • Organize work patterns, facilitate care-focused training, and access appropriate services to support childcare practices.
  • Build on principles and standards expected at Area Camden, contributing to continuous improvement and compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and DSO role.
  • Qualifications: Leadership & Management qualification or equivalent (or working towards it); NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People or equivalent.
  • Experience managing staff within a children’s home setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Children’s Act 1989, Care Standards Act 2000, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Benefits include 28 days annual leave (including Bank Holidays), increasing by one day per year for the first three years, a laptop, mobile phone, local parking permit, and participation in the government workplace pension scheme after probation.
  • The role is subject to a one-month notice period on either side, except for disciplinary or malpractice issues.
