Children's Complex Needs School Nurse

Evelina London is at the heart of a network of children's health services in Lambeth and Southwark and across South-East England. We provide a comprehensive range of children's health services, so that we are able to look after patients from antenatal diagnosis through childhood, into adolescence and on into adult services.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting Children and Young People with complex needs assess education and prevent hospital admissions. We are seeking enthusiastic experienced paediatric nurses, who have a passion for care in the community.

You will work as an autonomous practitioner supporting children and young people with complex needs access education. You will also be responsible for training, caseload management, handover of care and service developments providing specialist input when necessary.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Children's Nurse wishing to expand their skills and knowledge working with children and young people with complex needs in the community.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work autonomously and has a passion for providing high quality care that supports and empowers Children and Young People to access education and manage their own care where possible within the home, school and other community sites within Lambeth and Southwark.

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner providing high quality specialist nursing care, education and training to children / young people and their carers in the school and community settings.The post holder will be responsible for supporting children and young people with complex needs to access education and prevent hospital admissions.

The post holder will provide clinical supervision to other staff, students and may undertake research, lead clinical audits in own specialist area. The post holder will work collaboratively across the Children's Community Nursing Service ensuring the safety and well-being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centered care principles.

Person Specification
Qualification
  • RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
  • Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
  • BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
Experience
  • Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting
  • Experienced and competent in the management of patients within the speciality
Skills/Knowledge/Ability
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives.
  • Able to work alone
  • Ability to prioritise work effectively
  • Time management and organisation skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information. Dealing with distressed relatives, care of terminally ill & other challenging situations
  • Evidence of involvement and and leadership in mentoring students
