We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated band 5 paediatric nurse to join our Children's Community Nursing Team. The team provides nursing care to children and young people across County Durham and Darlington with a range of nursing needs. The service offers community care 7 days a week from 08:00 to 20:00, with two office bases in Darlington and Chester-le-Street. The successful candidate will be allocated a base but may need to work from either location to meet service needs.
You will deliver high standards of nursing care to children and their families in various community settings, including visits to family homes, schools, nurseries, and short-break provisions. You will work autonomously as a lone worker during visits under the guidance of the Children's Community Nursing Sisters. Training will be provided to equip you with the necessary skills, and you will be supported by the team. We seek someone passionate about providing outstanding community nursing care with excellent communication skills to meet diverse caseload needs. Initiative and flexibility are essential.

Our hospital services are provided from Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We also operate a planned care centre in Bishop Auckland and community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield, and Weardale, along with over 80 community-based settings and home care services.

From April 9th, 2025, Healthcare Assistants need a minimum of two years NHS experience for sponsorship consideration (only if your current visa expires within three months).
The Children's Community Nursing Team manages a varied caseload, including children with complex health needs. You will participate in delivering education to carers to facilitate access to education and short breaks. Discharged children from acute settings will require nursing care at home, including IV medication administration. Travel across County Durham and Darlington is required; you must have your own vehicle. You will be based in Darlington or Chester-le-Street, starting and ending your day from your allocated base.
This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A DBS check will be required to verify any criminal convictions.
