Overview

Job Type: Permanent | Sector: Health, Medicine | Region: South East | Location: South West Surrey

Salary: £24,486 to £26,155.50 per annum. Starting salary of £24,486 plus Group Pension.

Role: Community Carer for children with complex medical needs, providing high-quality care in the community and in the children’s homes. The role supports children and families in a flexible, child-centred environment and may adapt to evolving needs. Based at one of our Surrey-wide office hubs, with community-based work and hybrid working options.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, effective care to children in their homes and in the community as delegated by the Named Nurse.
  • Recognize safeguarding concerns and follow appropriate procedures.
  • Maintain competencies in clinical skills and be familiar with emergency procedures, including escalation and resuscitation when needed.
  • Support children’s development in partnership with families and the team across various settings.
  • Help maintain a safe, stimulating environment and record the child’s condition, taking appropriate action.
  • Organize daily activities and attend training and supervision sessions.
  • Complete the HCRG Care Certificate within 3 months (if required) and stay updated with relevant training.
  • Follow infection control and health & safety policies, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Communicate effectively, especially in situations with communication barriers, and liaise with the child’s care team.
  • Participate in team meetings, maintain accurate records, and support colleagues by sharing information and addressing concerns.
  • Schedule: 24/7 service with night shifts across the year, including weekends.
Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Understanding the impact of providing/receiving care in the home for children with complex medical needs and their families.
  • Ability to participate in training of new staff in various settings.
  • Willingness to work towards the “experienced to teach” part of the Competency Framework.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to children.

Desirable

  • NVQ 3 in health or social care or recognised nursery nurse qualification.
  • GCSE in Maths and English.
  • British Sign Language level 1 and Makaton.
  • Experience of relevant clinical procedures and technology dependency.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with children with complex health needs and with children in other settings such as nursery or respite service.
  • Other: driving licence (car driver).
