Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a Social Worker for the Children in Care team in Mid Essex. The role is available as a fixed-term contract or secondment for up to 18 months, with opportunities to gain court-reporting and direct work with children.

You will visit children in placements, develop permanency plans, and represent the Local Authority in Family Court, delivering high-quality care plans and life-story work while ensuring safeguarding standards are met.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in social work, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent qualification.
• Registered with Social Work England as a social worker.
• Demonstrated capability in practice per PCF and KSS.
• Proficiency in Word and social work case recording systems.
• Mobility and ability to travel within Essex and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Visit children and young people in placement and develop permanency plans including SGO and adoption.
• Represent the Local Authority in Family Court and present care plans.
• Write court reports and present evidence in proceedings.
• Support children to understand their experiences and advocate their wishes.
