Job description

Seed of Light Basildon Ltd is seeking a passionate and experienced Children s Home Manager (or a Deputy Manager ready to step up) to lead a nurturing and inclusive residential setting for young people with emotional and behavioural needs.

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled professional to help shape the culture, practice, and success of a new home focused on care, stability, and positive outcomes for children and young people. Experienced Deputy Managers ready to upskill and step into a Registered Manager role are strongly encouraged to apply.

About the Role

You will be responsible for the overall leadership, compliance, and quality of care delivered at the home, supported by a dedicated team and the Responsible Individual. Your work will directly influence the lives of young people and contribute to an environment where they feel safe, respected, and empowered.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Children and Young People

  • Create a warm, safe, and inclusive home environment that prioritises children's well-being.

  • Ensure personalised care planning, risk management, and behaviour support are in place and regularly reviewed.

  • Champion children s rights, participation, and achievement across all aspects of care and daily life.

  • Facilitate effective admissions, transitions, and care reviews in collaboration with professionals and families.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead, support, and supervise the care team, including recruitment, training, and performance management.

  • Maintain safe staffing levels through effective rota planning and absence management.

  • Promote a culture of learning, reflection, and development within the team.

Operational and Regulatory Oversight

  • Manage the home s budget, resources, and environment in line with company policy.

  • Ensure compliance with OFSTED regulations, safeguarding procedures, and internal quality standards.

  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and lead the home through inspections and audits.

  • Maintain professional documentation, reporting, and communication at all times.

Partnerships and Professional Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with local authorities, schools, healthcare providers, and families.

  • Represent the home in multi-agency meetings and advocate for the best interests of each young person.

  • Contribute to referrals, admissions, and promote high occupancy levels in collaboration with the Responsible Individual.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least 2 years experience in a children s residential care setting, with 1 year in a senior or leadership role.

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to achieve).

  • Sound understanding of Children s Homes Regulations 2015, the Children Act 1989, and safeguarding.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Commitment to achieving high standards and positive OFSTED outcomes.
