Children and Young People Befriender - Doncaster and Surrounding Villages

The Hull Independent Visitors Service (Children and Young Person befriender) is seeking volunteers to make a difference in young people's lives. As an independent visitor, you will befriend and visit a young person living in the care of the council, such as in a residential unit or foster care. Young people are usually aged between 5 and 18 years.

We ask that you can give a young person a few hours per month for a minimum of two years. This commitment is important for the young person's social, emotional, and educational development.

Activities can involve anything from football in the park, seeing the latest films, or other activities you both want to do. Budget and travel expenses are provided each month.

Additional Information:
The role requires two references and an enhanced DBS check, which is free. All volunteer expenses are paid in full once returned to the project.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Attend the training provided to equip you with the skills and knowledge for the role.
  • Be a consistent, reliable, and positive adult role model in their life.
  • Meet the child/young person at their home and travel to your chosen activity.
  • Encourage the child/young person to try new and different experiences.
  • Support and encourage the child/young person to help build their self-confidence.
