Job description

GLL is seeking to recruit excellent childcare staff to work within our Children’s Centres in the Kidbrooke and Eltham areas of Greenwich Borough. We are recruiting for the position of Child & Family Practitioners.

Role Overview:

As a Child and Family Practitioner, working on a flexible contract, you will contribute to creating a safe, stimulating, educational, and fun environment for children. Your role involves promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of children under 5 years old through sensitive individual planning of each child's needs, encouraging their development and independence. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. You will collaborate with colleagues and partners to ensure our Children’s Centre services are accessible and beneficial to local families with young children.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working with children under five years old and their families.
  • A childcare qualification is desirable; however, we will consider applicants interested in pursuing one.
  • Knowledge of the EYFS framework and principles, safeguarding issues, procedures, and understanding of equality and diversity.
  • A confident team player with a positive attitude and driven approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and participate in group activities with individual and groups of children, tailored to their development, age, and interests, providing access to a broad indoor and outdoor curriculum in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  2. Act as a key person for one or more children, developing warm relationships with children and families to support learning and development.
  3. Engage with parents/carers to discuss their child’s progress through informal contact, record keeping, and review meetings.
  4. Support and value each child's home culture and language, including planning for children with English as an additional language.
  5. Contribute to maintaining a stimulating, secure, caring, and inclusive environment that promotes equal opportunities and diversity.
  6. Supervise children in indoor and outdoor areas and on trips, providing appropriate intervention to support their learning.

Minimum Requirements:

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Child Development or equivalent (desirable).
  • Experience working with children under five.
  • Experience in planning and supporting play provision based on evidence-based approaches outlined in the EYFS.
  • Knowledge of EYFS, safeguarding issues, and procedures.
  • Understanding of Ofsted Children’s Centre requirements/frameworks.
  • Knowledge of working with children and families from diverse backgrounds, including provision for disabled children and those with special needs.
  • Knowledge of relevant statutes, regulations, legislation, guidance, and codes of practice affecting support services for young children and families.
  • Strong understanding of equality and diversity issues.
