Maternity Cover

Burton Borough School is seeking an inspiring and committed Child Development and Design Technology Teacher (maternity cover) to join our thriving team at a truly exciting time in our journey. Located in the picturesque market town of Newport, on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border, our school offers easy access to Shrewsbury, Stafford, Telford, and Wolverhampton—making it a perfect location for work-life balance.

We are proud to be part of the Learning Community Trust, having joined in April 2024. This partnership places us within a forward-thinking, research-informed network of professionals, where collaboration and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do.

At Burton Borough, we live and breathe our values: ambitious for every student and every member of staff, proud of our inclusive culture and high standards, and caring in how we support, nurture, and challenge our learners. Our school sits at the heart of the Newport community, and we see it as our privilege to help every young person flourish. We believe every student deserves an exceptional education and we work tirelessly to make that a reality.

Our Child Development and Design Technology provision is built on a foundation of relevance, creativity, and practical learning. We offer a well-sequenced and engaging curriculum that helps students understand human growth and development, while also developing hands-on skills in design, innovation, and problem-solving. Our team is collaborative, passionate, and committed to helping students become thoughtful, skilled, and confident learners.

We are looking for a teacher who brings energy and enthusiasm to the classroom, has excellent subject knowledge across Child Development and DT, and delivers engaging and challenging lessons that inspire curiosity, creativity, and independence. The successful candidate will join a team that values student voice, adaptive teaching, and learning beyond the classroom.

Role expectations
  • Deliver engaging and challenging lessons across Child Development and Design Technology.
  • Contribute to a well-sequenced, relevant curriculum and collaborate with the team to support student learning.
  • Support student voice, adaptive teaching, and learning beyond the classroom.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to school improvement through CPD activities.
We offer
  • A high-quality CPD programme through the Learning Community Trust
  • An in-house coaching programme to support professional development
  • A centralised behaviour system that empowers teachers and maintains high standards
  • Robust pastoral and SLT support to ensure every student thrives
  • A strong focus on career development
  • Rich opportunities for extra-curricular involvement and community engagement

Burton Borough School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS clearance.

If you're ready to make a real impact in a school that values ambition, pride, and care—and where your professional development is genuinely supported—we would love to hear from you.
