Job description

Location: Leicester

We currently have an exciting opportunity for paralegals to join our expanding child care team in Leicester. At Cartwright King we offer flexible working, and you can choose where you work to meet the needs of our Client’s and the Business.

Responsibilities

In the role you will undertake a variety of duties, including:

  • Direct assistance with Care clients: Client contact point for new cases/allocation and when team in court.
  • Office contact for all phone and drop in enquiries.
  • Team Diary management, including setting up client appointments.
  • Support to team with client contacts, instructions, follow up.
  • Attend meetings with clients (Legal Help) – Supported and supervised.
  • Administrative support to team.
  • Case management – File set up, full conflict checks, liaison with counsel and experts, getting costs quotes/time frames, arrange claiming and paying disbursements.
  • Completing outline C2 applications to court on all issues for fee earner and serving , requisitioning cheques and paying court fees.
  • Setting up, monitoring, claiming and paying DNA and drug and alcohol testing.
  • Bundle preparation: assisting Solicitors with trial preparation.
  • Closing files.
  • Administrator for LAA online service – point of contact for all LA / FE queries.
  • Completing all LAA applications, extensions of scope and limits, prior authority and billing as above for checking by fee earner.
  • Drafting letters, preparation of file notes, telephones notes and other correspondence.
  • Drafting court documents.
  • Attending meetings with fee earners and taking notes.
  • Attending court with counsel and taking notes.
  • Performing other office duties as required.

Role Specifics

The successful child care paralegal will also have the following qualities:

Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including a polite telephone manner.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent typing skills.
  • Good letter writing skills and a high level of literacy.
  • IT skills.
  • An ability to work under pressure and to work to deadlines.

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of office equipment.
  • Proficiency in MS office (Excel, Word, Outlook in particular).
  • A keen interest in this area of law and a commitment to the highest level of client care and service.

Experience

  • Office administration within a legal environment ideally within a Care /Family team.
  • Legal research.
  • Managing a busy workload.
  • Previous paralegal experience an advantage.
  • Use of case management software would be advantageous.
  • Use of the Legal Aid Agency portal, CCMS is desirable.
