Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychologist
Job Summary: This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing new service aimed at improving the well-being and psychological functioning of young people at Oakhill STC. The service provides weekly individual and group therapy sessions to young people aged 12 to 18 years with an offending history. You will utilise various psychological interventions for both the young person and family members, including the SECURE STAIRS framework. The post holder will be involved in assessments of young people and delivering both individual and group-based work. Treatment formulations will follow a highly structured treatment framework and involve a thorough diagnostic assessment process. The role also involves providing specialist consultation to staff and supporting them in working with young people.
Clinical Duties
- Provide specialist psychological assessments of children and young people referred to the team, based on the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from various sources.
- Communicate highly complex information and diagnostic outcomes to parents & carers, young people, and other professionals in a sensitive manner.
- Participate in assessments conducted by other clinicians or contribute to assessments of children in care where indicated.
- Develop psychological formulations of presenting problems or situations that integrate information from assessments within a coherent framework drawing upon psychological theory and evidence, considering interpersonal, societal, cultural, and biological factors.
- Develop and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of the child or young person, based on an appropriate conceptual framework and employing evidence-based methods across various settings.
- Implement a range of psychological interventions for children & young people, their families, carers, teachers, or support workers, adjusting formulations as needed and maintaining provisional hypotheses.
- Evaluate and decide on treatment options, considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors influencing the child's or young person's development.
- Support transitions of children in care to and from inpatient settings, inter-placement transitions, and to adult mental health services through multiagency care planning.
- Participate as an active member of the multidisciplinary team, attending meetings and providing advice and support.
- Establish links with other parts of Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services, Primary Care Services, Social Services, and relevant agencies.
- Maintain skills and knowledge of child protection procedures, ensuring training in this area for team members.
- Develop skills in professional postgraduate teaching, training, supervision, and provide supervision to other MDT staff as appropriate.
- Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals, contributing to shared formulation, diagnosis, and treatment plans.
- Assess newly allocated cases and formulate appropriate treatment plans collaboratively.
- Complete relevant paperwork, maintain electronic records, and participate in routine outcome monitoring.
