Chief Technician Data

This role will combine responsibilities from business intelligence, data analytics, operations analysis, and digital leadership to support high-quality, data-driven decision-making within the Pharmacy Department. The post holder will serve as a digital and data systems lead, working closely with Pharmacy, Trust IT, and external suppliers to ensure robust pharmacy informatics infrastructure, high data quality, and innovative use of analytics, automation, and digital tools. The role is key to advancing the department's use of EPIC and other digital systems, embedding analytics into practice, and driving performance improvement through data.

Main duties of the job
  • Design and implement pharmacy performance dashboards and reporting tools using BI technologies and SQL-based solutions.
  • Collaborate with operational and clinical pharmacy teams to identify performance improvement opportunities.
  • Provide data-driven insight for stock optimisation, drug usage trends, risk management, and incident investigation.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement for new digital solutions and analytics rollouts.
  • Work with BIU and Quality teams to embed pharmacy data into Trust-level dashboards and strategic performance frameworks.
  • Act as a liaison between Pharmacy, Trust IT, external vendors, and BIU to ensure system reliability and alignment with strategic priorities.

Job responsibilities
  • Main Duties and Responsibilities
Data Analytics & Insight
  • Design and implement pharmacy performance dashboards and reporting tools using BI technologies and SQL-based solutions. Develop, maintain, and improve data quality frameworks across pharmacy systems, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Provide expert analysis of datasets including Rx-info, IQVIA, Define/Refine, and EPIC reports to inform operational and strategic decisions.
  • Support the development and operation of the Pharmacy Data Analytics Centre.
  • Enable advanced analytics through AI and machine learning to improve forecasting, efficiency, and service planning.
Performance & Operations Support
  • Collaborate with pharmacy teams to identify performance improvement opportunities.
  • Provide data-driven insights for stock, drug trends, risk management, and incident investigation.
  • Support digital KPIs, dashboards, and intelligence products aligned to Trust priorities.
  • Deliver business analysis for pharmacy transformation initiatives, including automation and workforce productivity.
Training, Engagement & Change Leadership
  • Develop and deliver tailored training on digital systems, dashboards, and analytics tools.
  • Build digital literacy and promote best practices in data handling.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement for digital solutions and analytics rollouts.
  • Apply project and change management approaches (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile) during system implementation.
Business Intelligence & Strategic Reporting
  • Work with BIU and Quality teams to embed pharmacy data into Trust dashboards and performance frameworks.
  • Ensure timely reporting to external agencies (e.g., NHSE, GIRFT) and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead analytics projects supporting inspections, audits, and benchmarking.
Governance, Innovation, and AI
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new data tools, AI, and analytics methodologies.
  • Ensure data protection, security, and governance standards are met.
  • Participate in research and knowledge-sharing activities, representing Pharmacy in digital forums.
Digital Systems & Integration
  • Ensure system reliability and alignment with strategic priorities through liaison roles.
  • Support integration of pharmacy systems with Trust platforms for interoperability.
  • Contribute to pharmacy’s digital transformation strategy aligned with Trust-wide digital health goals.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician (GPhC) or Pharmacist (GPhC)
  • Strong SQL and BI tool proficiency (e.g., SSRS, Power BI, Python)
  • Significant pharmacy experience (community or hospital)
  • Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
