Raptor Photonics provides world-class cameras to the scientific and surveillance markets. We are seeking a CTO to provide strategic technical leadership across our business. The role involves communicating with employees, stakeholders, and customers to ensure effective use of our technologies. Strategic thinking and strong business acumen are essential. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in current technological trends and familiar with various business concepts.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design strategies for future development projects aligned with the company's objectives and resources, including a product roadmap for the next 5 years incorporating new sensors and product diversification based on sales data and technology availability.
2. Leverage the R&D team’s skills and collaborations to develop innovative products.
3. Manage the engineering team and drive multiple projects to completion, ensuring proper resourcing and workload prioritization for projects averaging 30-40 at a time, with contract values between £1M-5M.
4. Hire engineers and coordinate their training, demonstrating strong people management skills, including managing expectations, performance, and motivating top performers.
5. Prepare and manage the engineering department’s budget.
6. Represent the company by presenting technical papers at international conferences such as Defence and Commercial Sensing (DCS) in Orlando, Photonics West in San Francisco, and DSEI in London.

Key Skills & Experience

1. BEng/MEng in Electronics or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a CTO or similar leadership role within an engineering department, with a track record of driving technological growth and product development.
3. Strong understanding of current and emerging technological advancements, with experience in developing innovative strategies aligned with organizational goals.
4. Expertise in conducting comprehensive technological analyses and research to inform decision-making.
5. Experience managing project budgets and developing business strategies to meet contractual obligations while optimizing departmental efficiency.
6. Proficiency in strategic planning for 3-5 year horizons.
7. Successful project management experience ensuring delivery through strategic planning and execution.
8. Experience with CCD/CMOS/SWIR cameras or similar industry products.
9. Experience in grants and funding, such as with Invest NI.
