Job Summary

Fixed Term: 12 months | 40hrs per week (Part-time considered)

Sheffield Children's is excited to offer a unique opportunity for senior doctors in training (ST-4 level or above, or equivalent experience), interested in leadership, management, and quality improvement. You will join our Chief Registrar Programme, where you'll help to enhance education and training initiatives.

What We Offer

  1. The opportunity to play an important part in establishing Sheffield Children's Hospital as a Centre of Excellence for Training and to enhance the Resident Doctor experience.

  3. 40%-50% protected time (0.4-0.5 WTE) to focus on leadership, management, and quality improvement programmes.
  4. Participation in the Chief Registrar Programme with bespoke leadership development through the Royal College of Physicians.

This role will provide you with the skills, confidence, and experience needed for future leadership roles in healthcare, with a supportive environment to drive meaningful change.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Director of Medical Education, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Lead a paired learning scheme partnering senior resident doctors with operational/management colleagues to gain valuable management experience alongside educational support.
  2. Develop and deliver an educational package focused on entry-level research skills for resident doctors, aligning with postgraduate research curriculum competencies.
  3. Establish and lead a working group to review and improve the Health Toolbox resources used at Sheffield Children's Hospital.
  4. Contribute to membership exam teaching and develop related content, depending on your specialty.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training Essential

  1. Resident Doctors with a National Training Number (NTN) working at ST4 level or above at the first instance.
  2. Locally Employed Doctors (LED) at equivalent experience of ST4 or above
  3. Must hold full GMC Registration

Desirable

  1. Additional relevant degree (intercalated, master's or doctorate)

Quality/service improvement or audit Essential

  1. Evidence of active involvement in quality improvement, audit, research or other activity that focuses on patient safety and clinical improvement and innovation
  2. Interest in/knowledge of the delivery of safe, effective healthcare services

Desirable

  1. Evidence of a portfolio of audit/quality improvement projects, including evidence that the audit loop has been closed and evidence of learning about the principles of change management

Education and teaching Essential

  1. Evidence of interest in and experience of teaching
